In the event one happens, here are three key\nsteps that should be taken:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Take a deep breath to calm your nerves.<\/li><li>Assess the situation to determine what the\nproblem is.<\/li><li>Contact your emergency dentist to explain what\nhas happened and to schedule a visit.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Respond to Common Emergencies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To aid in your recovery, it\u2019s always good to have a plan of\naction for responding to a dental emergency. Let\u2019s look at some of the more\ncommon hiccups that can happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cracked or Broken Tooth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you participate in any sporting events and you don\u2019t wear\na mouthguard, there is a greater chance of you having a dental emergency.\nThat\u2019s because whenever people are moving around hurriedly, there is always the\npossibility of a collision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For temporary relief, you can rinse your mouth with warm\nsalt-water to remove any bacteria. You can also take an over-the-counter pain\nreliever like ibuprofen or Tylenol to decrease any discomfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dislodged Tooth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If your tooth is knocked out, then grab it by the crown and\ncarefully attempt to reinsert it. If that isn\u2019t possible, then you can place\nthe tooth in a cup of milk or water to keep the root alive until you can be\nseen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Severe Toothache<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A severe toothache is usually caused by untreated bacteria\ngrowth. If you\u2019re in this predicament, then you can first attempt to floss\ncarefully around the pain site to make sure there is nothing lodged between\nyour teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To decrease the pain, you can take ibuprofen or Tylenol, and\nto reduce any swelling, apply an icepack in 20-minute increments to the outside\nof your jaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Broken or Dislodged Crown\/Bridge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If a crown or bridge restoration falls out your mouth, you\nare left vulnerable to a painful infection. As a temporary remedy, you can place\na dollop of dental wax, denture adhesive or toothpaste on the fixture so you\ncan reinsert it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why You Shouldn\u2019t Ignore a Dental Emergency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that even if you\u2019re able to get some temporary\nrelief from your dental emergency\u2019s symptoms, you still need to receive\nprofessional care.
