Here are two actions that are often recommended to temporarily quiet\na toothache until you can get in for a visit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>To apply Orajel to the pain site<\/li><li>To take an over-the-counter pain reliever like\nibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As a reminder, these products may provide temporary pain\nrelief, but it\u2019s still critical to visit a dentist to have the problem (which\nis usually acute bacteria growth) addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Ways to Respond to a Toothache<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the above-listed actions, here are some other\nhelpful ways to respond to a severe toothache:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You can rinse your mouth with a salt-water\nsolution or an alcohol-based mouthwash to numb the pain site. <\/li><li>It doesn\u2019t hurt to carefully floss around the\naffected tooth to make sure nothing is lodged between your teeth.<\/li><li>If you have any swelling, applying an icepack to\nthe outside of your jaw in 20-minute increments will help to reduce the\ninflammation and decrease any discomfort. <\/li><li>While you wait to receive professional care from\na dentist, you should keep your head elevated to prevent blood rushing to your mouth\nand intensifying the pain.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s unfortunate to have a toothache, but you don\u2019t have to\nlet it slow you down.
